When did you realize you wanted to pursue music?
I realized I wanted to prusue music was when I saw the 2pac "I Get Around" video. Seeing a visual of a decent lookin guy, with a persona that captivated the whle party made me realize the effect music really has on people. Later, after fully understanding music, I was inspired by the type of recognition you get from changing culture, winning grammies, going mulit-platinum. I always wanted to be a benchmark in American history as someone that penetrated culture.
Are there any music artists that have influence your career or sound? Who and why?
I would say as someone that consistently evolves as a person. There is always someone new that will change your perception of music. Some of my original influences were Michael Jackson, MC Hammer, 2pac, and LL Cool J. But, the artists that contributed to the artist that I am today... I would have 2 say Jay-Z. What he has accomplished as a businessman and artist cannot be outdone. Kanye West... who he is and what he stands for is the most beautiful gift in itself. He is himself and he's never afraid to be who he wants to be. Pharrell Williams... aside from the fashion tastemaker he is, The Neptune's sound molded what music is about to me - which is creativity.
If you could collab with any music artist or producer right now, who would it be?
If I had the opportunity to work with any one producer it would be Kanye West.
Tell us about your music collection. Who would we find in your ipod?
My music collection grows daily, but I'm listening to artists that I think either has or will change the history of music... Kanye West, Drake, Kid Cudi (shoutout to him), and The Dream. I think he's a great song writer. I also listen to Lil Wayne, Paramore, Katy Perry, Mike Posner, The Cool Kids, and a few others.
What has been the number one highlight of your career thus far?
The highlight of my career actually has nothing to do with me directly, but Scott Mescudi (Kid Cudi) & I both attended the same high school and for me to see him consistently progressing was overwhelming. We weren't best friends, but we were cool. We both had a common goal. We both were traveling similar roads. Then he was recruited by my biggest inspiration to join a family of extremely talented musicians (g.o.o.d music). I was so happy that someone close to me made it to where I'm trying to go.
Tell us about your most memorable or wildest night on stage.
Summer 2008, my friend and I threw a party in Cleveland and had some of the hottest talent there to perform along side us. I had an excellent show. I jumped in the crowd and I was dancing and performing, but when I tried to hop back on stage, I actually fell in front of a room full of people which was crazy for me. I thought I would be stunned by the situation, but I got up and continued my show.
A day in the life of "Young Miz" would consist of?
Everyday is different. Very few elements happen on a consistent basis, but as of right now... I wake up, pray and give thanks that I'm still here, go to work, network, work on "Easy Street Volume 2" and the mixtape project that I plan to release before the actual album and work out.
What else would you like to share with your fans and where can we find your music?
Easy Street Volume 2 releases this summer and the mixtape is coming soon. You can find me on:
